Residence Connect by Spacestor increases room availability and supports focus work in the workplace by removing phone and video calls from open desk areas.

With Residence Connect Video calls can be held without disturbing others in the open workplace

Over the past several years, many innovative products have reached the market addressing the need for privacy, peace and quiet for focused work. The team at Spacestor has created the Residence Connect as a single person, tech integrated pod designed to deliver the ultimate equitable video-conferencing experience through unparalleled user experience, sustainability & inclusivity.

How can Residence Connect best improve the workplace environment for the way we are working today and going forward?

It improves the capacity for collaboration in the workplace by increasing room availability, as well as supporting focus work in the workplace by removing phone and video calls from open desk areas.

Residence Connect allows designers to specify a solution that offers an equitable experience for all employees, regardless of the ability, by using the ADA Accessible variant. Lastly, it offers lifecycle cost savings achieved through the option to redeploy units, rather than building/demolishing phone rooms.

Does Residence Connect support agile and activity – based workplaces that are becoming so prevalent in new and refurbished facilities?

Absolutely. The Residence Connect plays perfectly into the ABW space (or ‘experienced-based working’). Instead of staying in one place all day long, you move around to find the best space for the task in hand. Residence Connect encourages users not to remain at their desks for long video calls, settling for a far-from-optimum environment with little privacy, distracting your co-workers in the open office, but to instead shift to a pod optimized for the ultimate virtual meeting experience, increasing the productivity of both the user and those around them.

Can you tell a story or give an example of how this product line will help our readers design and implement great workplace solutions?

Designers can have confidence that when placing this product on a plan, they’re dropping in a solution 100 percent fit-for-purpose, saving research time & giving complete peace of mind.

We don’t believe designers should have to make compromises on environmental, safety or quality standards, which is why over two years, we’ve been testing and refining Residence Connect to ensure it complies with the highest requirements in the industry.

We’ve also spent a lot of time conducting user testing to ensure the pod suits all employees – regardless of their abilities – meaning designers are buying into an equitable solution without sacrificing user experience.

The Spacestor Design Team expanded on their ideas about the development and implementation of The Residence Connect product line. First, they shared their inspiration behind the design concept:

To remove the growing ‘one-sided conversation’ problem presented by the rise of video calls. Research shows that only hearing half of a conversation (as we do in an open-plan office) is much more distracting to those nearby than hearing the whole conversation – this is because our brains are wired to constantly try and fill in the gaps, hindering our ability to focus. Residence Connect was not only designed to remove this problem, but also to deliver the optimum environment in which to take or make such calls.

Material choices were selected with consideration of variances in peoples skin tone to ensure all users are visually represented equally.

What innovations in use of materials or fabrication are utilized in the manufacture of this product?

  • Designed with a materials palette that adheres to stringent global standards and is LBC Red List Compliant
  • Upholstery choices based on the optimum light reflective values, supporting the equitable visual representation of people of all skin tones.
  • A patent-pending acoustic seal technique ensures an extremely high acoustic performance.
  • Patent-pending ventilation system allows air to flow through the walls meaning pods can be positioned next to each other with no impact on performance with a change of air every four minutes.
  • Separately height-adjustable table and screen for optimal viewing angle (rarely adjustable independently in other offerings)

Where do you think the installation of this product will be most effective?

In workplaces that currently either have no facility for virtual calls and are using open desking areas, or where a traditional phone pod, designed for short calls is being used for longer video conferences. Some companies are also using four, six or eight-person meeting rooms to get the privacy required for a one-person call, so spaces like these would greatly benefit from a more optimized solution with a much-reduced footprint.

Residence connect solves the problem of one user taking over a larger meeting room for a video conference. All the required technology is there for simple connection in comfort and privacy!

Is Residence Connect now available for specification?

Yes, we launched on January 13, 2020 and are ready to accept orders. Residence Connect can be user-customized via our online customizer, which issues a drawing, spec, and a 3D file instantly, with the option to request Revit blocks and a quote to the spec designed.

The interactive customizer makes it easy to pick and choose all the options for size, materials etc.

What do you think our readers will love about Residence Connect?

Residence Connect has been through extensive testing & we’re pleased to announce it is UL-listed! This means it can be specified with the confidence that it has been tested to the most stringent levels of safety, quality & compliance.

Are you able to share any cost information about Residence Connect?

The pods can be assembled with multiple units.
