Come Inside a Seamless Office

Fujitsu is a Japanese tech company known for innovation, but like many traditional workplaces, it faces challenges with hierarchy, limited collaboration, and a lack of flexibility. Employees often feel disconnected, not just from leadership, but also from each other. Office politics, micromanagement, generational differences, and environments that don’t support diverse working styles or well-being only make things harder.

When approaching this project, I knew I didn’t want to just design a modern office. I wanted to create a workspace that truly supports the people using it every day. With Fujitsu’s Japanese roots, I made it a priority to integrate traditional Japanese materials and design principles—bringing a sense of familiarity and cultural identity into the space. At the same time, I had to think about the wide range of employees, from different generations to neurodiverse individuals, and how to bridge those gaps—whether generational, hierarchical, or cognitive.

That’s how “Seamless Synergy” came to life. The concept focuses on harmony, integration, and fluidity—breaking down both physical and social barriers in the workplace. The space is divided into two main zones: an open collaborative area and a more private, secluded zone. Both are designed to encourage teamwork but in ways that respect individual needs and working styles. The open areas feature flexible layouts and writable surfaces to promote easy interaction. The private zones provide quiet spaces for focused work or wellness, including reservable rooms for when employees need to reset or work without distractions.

Even though these zones serve different purposes, they stay visually connected to maintain a sense of unity across the office. I also focused on removing hierarchical cues, making leadership more approachable and ensuring that everyone feels like they belong—regardless of title, age, or cognitive needs.

Seamless Synergy creates a balanced, inclusive environment where employees can collaborate, focus, and feel valued. It’s designed to overcome the everyday challenges of generational divides, hierarchy, and neurodiversity; turning the workplace into a space where everyone can thrive and do their best work.

WDM: What’s next for you?

FPL: This summer, I am continuing my education with classes like construction documents, computer applications, and history of modern interiors. The upcoming fall term will also consist of continuing my education as well as participating in the Festival of the Trees fundraising event. In this event, a group of other students and I will be designing a “tree” to enter into the design competition.

During our catch-up with Faila, she encouraged fellow students to put themselves out there when applying for opportunities like this competition.
